Initiative Overview:
Along with the help of our compassionate Florida International University Volunteers, on the first Saturday of every month Manifezt hosts Youth STEM Saturdays at Soar Park, aimed at all children aged 6-10 willing to come out and learn. At this location we tend to focus on Life Sciences and conducting different live experiments and demonstrations to spark their interest in different areas.
At these hands-on classes to engage the children, we use simple materials to explain the lessons, for example we have used crushed strawberries to illustrate what a DNA strand looks like and how genetically similar we are to each other, and other organisms. To encourage them to keep coming and reward them for the dedication, at the end of each day we give them a certificate showing the completed program, describing what they’ve learned.
